Woodlands Country House Hotel
Hill Lane, Brent Knoll

www.woodlands-hotel.co.uk

If you yearn for the countryside with its many pursuits and appreciate the timeless elegance, sophistication, charm and style of country house living, then you will simply adore Woodlands. Tucked away nestling in four acres of grounds that lead to walks and the stunning Somerset countryside beyond, Woodlands is a haven of tradition and tranquillity, from cream teas to roaring log fires. There is a selection of classically presented bedrooms and suites that include romantic four-posters. The elegant and charming Victorian restaurant serves dishes from a seasonally adjusted menu that will both surprise and delight the most discerning palate. This fabulous idyll is licensed for civil wedding ceremonies and it is hard to imagine a more traditional and sophisticated setting for such an important day. The owners and hosts Peter and Glenda are both very passionate about the standard of service that they and their loyal, friendly and helpful team of staff are renowned for. This is a very special place owned and run by special people.

Chindit House Bed and Breakfast
Wells Rd, Glastonbury

www.chindit-house.co.uk

In 2002 Peter and his partner Felicity discovered Chindit House. Six years later, after a lot of hard work and tender care, this beautiful stone mansion set in an acre of secluded grounds in the heart of historic Glastonbury was reborn this year. Peter and Felicity will tell you that it was nothing less than a labour of love. Both their natural artistic talents shine through wonderfully: beautifully presented bedrooms where brass bedsteads, voluminous drapes, period furniture and architecture all melt into a delicious fusion of beauty. Juxtaposed against all this romance and history, the bathrooms pay homage to modernity. Peter and Felicity are fun, thoughtful, welcoming and incredibly hospitable. Thank you both for sharing your beautiful home with us and our readers.

Miller's at Glencot House, Luxurious Boutique Country House Hotel and Restaurant
Glencot Lane, Wookey Hole, Wells, Somerset

www.glencothouse.co.uk

Nestled aside the banks of the River Axe near Wookey Hole sits this fabulous Victorian country house designed and built in the Jacobean style as only the Victorians could, and what a splendid job they did. On arriving, seeing this majestic building and the fabulous grounds and location is reward enough, and thoughts of hold-ups on the M25 and the M4 become just a distant memory. The interiors are simply stunning: voluminous drapes framing mullioned windows, huge tapestries, oodles of antique furniture and objets d'art abound. The atmosphere of timeless country house elegance and unashamed luxury drifts effortlessly throughout every room. What makes Miller's at Glencot House so special is the delicious and brave disregard for normality. This is without doubt Jacobean architecture punctuated with lavish, camp and eccentricity which simply delights and enthrals body and soul. To me, it is Anne Boleyn's period elegance, Noel Coward's indisputable sophistication with Freddie Mercury's flamboyance and cheekiness that makes this hotel so wonderfully unique. I must warn you that inevitably there is a downside: you will never want to leave here.

Gay Friendly Romantic Cottage
Frome, Somerset

www.lazydogcottage.co.uk

Lazy Dog Cottage
This intriguingly named cottage sits peacefully in a traffic-free conservation area in the heart of Frome, a historic market town with steep winding streets that are full of character. Lazy Dog Cottage will simply enthral you. It has all of the archtectural quirkiness that you would expect from a cottage of this age. What makes Lazy Dog so extra special, apart from the fabulous location, is the stunning interior lovingly and luxuriously styled by Sophie, the very talented and friendly owner who has really pushed the boat out with the furnishings and facilities that she has provided. This really is a stunning example of modernity meets the traditional without detriment to the fine character & heritage of this very romantic and endearing cottage. Fabulous.

www.yewtree-house.co.uk

Yew Tree House

There is a cosy lounge and spacious dining room, both with exposed beams and period fireplaces. The whole house has a wonderful warm and friendly atmosphere which is further promoted by the very special and hospitable host Anne who, together with the help of her husband John and their family, really do make staying at this super bed and breakfast so very special.
